I apologize for my absence from the blog over the last few months – I have been travelling in the United Kingdom as a visiting student at Cardiff University in Wales.  In a couple of weeks, I will be attending a one-day conference on Exiting the Crises: Regional Development Priorities for the Post Recession Economy. This conference will bring together a range of policymakers, academics, and businesses to discuss what new challenges Wales might face and the potential responses to these issues.  More specifically, key themes will include:
•    Current prospects for the regional economy
•    Responses: Creativity and Innovation
•    Building resilience in the Welsh economy
•    SMEs and the Welsh recovery?
•    Prospects for the Welsh public sector after 2010
•    Local policy responses to the crisis
•    Sustainability: the energy sector in regional futures
Moving forward, these are important questions we should be asking in Eastern Ontario.  We would like to hear from you about how the recession has impacted Eastern Ontario or your community?  What should the priorities for the region be?  What local responses have been implemented as a response?  Now is the time to start thinking about what the recession has meant for Eastern Ontario.  Hopefully, this crisis will carry with it a more creative and innovative response to economic development.
