Keynote speaker Dr. Brent Ritchie holds a Professorship in Tourism Management at Haskayne School of Business (Calgary), and serves as Chair of the World Tourism Education & Research Centre. A graduate of Queen's University, Dr. Ritchie's ongoing research interests include the study of travel destination images, tourism policy, planning and development, managing quality service in tourism, enhancing productivity and competitiveness in the industry. His current active research focuses on destination vision management, and the development of Indices of Competitiveness, Sustainability and Progress. |

The Honourable Monique Smith was first elected to the Ontario Legislature in 2003 to represent her home riding of Nipissing and was re-elected in 2007. In 2008, Monique was appointed Minister of Tourism and took on the additional role of Government House Leader in 2009. As Minister of Tourism, Monique worked tirelessly to promote Ontario as a destination of choice for visitors from around the world. Working together with her tourism industry partners, she led the implementation of many of the recommendations from the Tourism Competitiveness Study, which was commissioned by the McGuinty Government in 2008 to identify how to revitalize and increase tourism across the province. In January 2010, Monique was appointed Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs.

Dr. Gisèle Yasmeen was appointed vice-president, partnerships of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada on January 2, 2007. SSHRC is an arm's-length federal agency that promotes and supports university-based research and training in the social sciences and humanities. In this position, Dr. Yasmeen is a key member of the senior management team, responsible for leading and directing partnership development and knowledge mobilization — a central pillar of the new SSHRC strategic plan. She also oversees the management of the suite of SSHRC targeted programs, including joint initiatives, Community-University Research Alliances, the International Opportunities Fund, strategic research clusters, and strategic programming. |
